The Great Fire

Our friend Rob Brennan approached us with an idea focused on two of our favorite things: homebrewed beer and Chicago. What emerged early in the planning stages was a storyline that followed that of The Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

We brewed four beers, taking inspiration from The Barn (Belgian Saison), The Cow (Sweet Milk Stout aged with Vanilla Bean), The Smoke (Smoked Porter with Home-Smoked 2 Row Malt) and The Fire (Hybrid Pale Ale aged with Habanero). 50 lucky guests were invited via screenprinted coasters and each person walked away with a bundle of four coasters: one to commemorate each of the beers. At the event (held the week of the 141st anniversary of the fire), guests received tasting cards, a souvenir tasting glass and homemade food paired to each style of beer.

Videos documenting the brew process were projected to accompany each beer, a truncated version of which is on the right.

An extra special thanks to Michael Kiser (Good Beer Hunting) for sharing his photos of the event with us.
